Iran's Spanish-language TV on air now
The Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) has officially launched the HispanTV Spanish-language channel which will broadcast a wide range of entertainment, news, and educational programs.
HispanTV went on air during a ceremony attended by head of the IRIB world service, Mohammad Sarafraz and a number of IRIB officials on December 21, 2011.
In his inauguration speech, Sarafraz emphasized that as an independent TV network, HispanTV could serve as a trustworthy bridge between Iran, the Middle East and Latin America.
“There are many Spanish language TV channels which are not independent and are only serving the interests of the US and some of its allies,” he said.
“These channels are good at hiding the truth and distorting the facts especially when it comes to Iran, the Middle East and the Muslim world,” he added.
The channel seeks to strengthen cultural bonds and proximity with Spanish-speaking nations as well as to introduce Iranian traditions and customs to other nations.
Interviews with prominent social figures, critical analysis of Europe's current issues and Spanish documentaries are part of the new channel's programming.
HispanTV is the third specialized channel broadcasting by IRIB after the Arabic language Al-Alam television network and the 24-hour English-language Press TV.
HispanTV programs are available for 16 hours a day which are expected to be increased to 24 hours in the near future.
The channel broadcasts on Hispasat 1C, frequency: 12092 MHz, vertical polarization, symbol rate: 27500, FEC ¾; and Hispasat 1C, frequency: 12172 MHz, horizontal position, symbol rate: 27500, FEC ¾.
It can also be received on NSS 806, frequency: 3803 MHz, horizontal position, symbol rate: 27500, FEC 3/4; Intelsat 9, frequency: 3840 MHz, vertical position, symbol rate: 27690, FEC 7/8 and HotBird, Frequency: 12380 MHz, vertical position, Symbol rate: 27500, FEC ¾.
